Social map project - Georges X Chalkboard

The project we are about to begin is titled "Creating a Community Map" It will involve the use of a variety of mediums, workshops and sub-projects, to, create a social map of Maryhill and the surrounding area. A social map is a collection of information that attempts to summarise the local communities history, - its present situation and to help create a vision for its future.

The project will involve:

Photographic Survey Walks, collecting visual material studying architecture and local geography – studying and recording community infrastructure, environment, flora and fauna. Photographing people, places and events.

-Desktop Publishing - Producing posters - leaflets - Graphics information packs, progress reports and news sheets for the project.

-Recording interviews - Stories - Oral history, music, creating programs for internet transmission. Learning about software

-Creating Models - of how it looks or how it could look . Creating environmental art and sculpture out of junk. Tidying up the street.

-The Environment - What is happening to it. Looking at it. Thinking about ideas to make it better for people, wee people and wee furry things.

-Wild Life - Where are the birds and the foxes. How do they get about . Are the living happily. What could be done to help them.

-Web site Working with maps - creating layouts and navigating the projects progress.

-How things connect up - If we understand how things connect up. We start to find explanations of why things happen, and how we can intervene and change them. A series of talks, films and events dealing with this idea will be put together.

-How things are organised - After participation the most important thing is organisation. There are more ways than one to peel an onion. The more thought that goes into organising the task, the more enjoyment the task has a chance of creating.

-The idea of the project:is based on social education, where the role of the teacher and student is reversible and we each learn from the others unique experiences.

-The progress culmination of the above will be recorded on video as a template for other communities to reference.

Some funding may be applied for for the above project, but we will not be relying on funding as the project will happen either way. With your help of course
